Cyn Bird is a visual artist from Queens, NYC. She has a BA in Studio Art from SUNY Fredonia, and studied at the Art Students League in New York. Her art deals with concept of place, and the experience of both real and imaginary places.
"The connection I have with nature and the spirit of place is both the subject of and the catalyst for my work. I explore actual and imaginary places in various mediums. Playing with highly textured pieces, embedding natural objects into the surface, excites the sense of touch and well as sight. Other works have only a thin whisper of paint, with much of the ground exposed. In their own way tactile as well, the feel of bare canvas lends a sense of openness. My process is intuitive. Much of the work in unplanned; the materials themselves become a means of self-expression and discovery. Laying down paint at random, building up the surface, inscribing and scraping away, allows a glimpse at the secrets beneath."
She lives and works in Northern NJ with her parrot, Kaya.
